Invermay Cross
sketchfab
The remains of the Invermay Cross are scattered across four sculptures displayed at Forteviot Church. A substantial portion of the base still lies in a field near its original site, where it stood nearly one thousand years ago. Fragments of the cross were deliberately broken off in the late 18th century. The faint impressions of narrative scenes evoke the imagery found on Constantine's Cross. Its size and rugged construction suggest that Invermay may have been a large stone slab, similar to Gask, rather than a freestanding monument like Constantine's Cross. The cross's form points towards an origin in the 8th or 9th century.
