Invermay Cross
sketchfab
The four fragments of sculpture showcased at Forteviot Church hail from the historic Invermay Cross. The base remains intact in a field at Invermay, situated near its original location over 1,000 years ago. At the end of the 18th century, the cross was shattered into fragments. Faint remnants of figurative imagery evoke scenes found on Constantine's Cross. The size and sturdiness of the fragments suggest that Invermay may have been a cross-slab, similar to Gask, rather than a standalone cross like Constantine's Cross. The form implies an 8th or 9th century origin.
