Some 3D printer firmware (CTC, Flashforge Inventor, Creator, Dreamer) limits extruder printing temperature to 248°C. How to deal with it? Change firmware or change hardware! To change firmware: Backdated firmware "dreamer_2.4.20160603" allows up to 280°C printing. To install the “dreamer_2.4.20160603” firmware, there are two options. I. Temporarily downgrade Flashprint to 3.12, which has an option to install the 2.4.20160603 firmware. After installation, you can upgrade Flashprint back to the latest version. II. Remove the internal SD card from the Flashforge Dreamer by taking off the bottom of the printer. Place the micro SD card in your PC using an adapter and replace the existing dreamer.bin under the "sys" subdirectory with the 2.4.20160603 version. Make sure to back up the existing dreamer.bin so you can return to the previous firmware if issues arise. The source of this idea came from http://uptimefab.com/2016/03/25/install-all-metal-hotend-flashforge-dreamer-print-test-pc-plus-polycarbonate/. To change hardware: Install a 33 ohm resistor in parallel with the Thermocouple. The Flashforge printer uses Type K Thermocouples, which produce thermoelectric voltage as a function of temperature. Adding a 33 ohm resistor in parallel tricks the system by -10°C, so it shows 248°C but is actually at 258°C. Use a small switch to turn it on/off and check the temperature while printing. Both methods work, but I prefer changing hardware. Now I can print PC Polycarbonate with an extruder temp of 290±20°C, Nylon X Polyamide With Chopped Carbon Fiber with an extruder temp of 260±10°C, and ASA Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate with an extruder temp of 250±10°C.
