
Intro to Engineering Project #2: Nike Jordan Logo

Summary Section:My second project for my intro to engineering class was a 3D model of a black Jordan logo with a little black Nike logo in the lower middle of it that has the number 23 in red which is in the bottom of the logo and it is on a look like green pear shape model. The length of the model is about 6.91 inches and the width is about 5.1 inches. Lesson Plan and Activity:With a partner, you will design a “2D” placard using Solidworks. You and your partner will have the same design which meets the constraints below, and you will EACH use Solidworks to create your design.Assembly/Construction Instructions Section:When me and my teammates have done making our designs in Solidworks, we printed our designs from a lava printer. The pieces that we got printed were the Jordan logo, the numbers 2 and 3 which would make the number 23 logo, and the look like pear shape model. Once we got our pieces printed, we have to connected the pieces so that it can look like our design that we created from Solidworks. Even though connecting pieces can be easy, but connecting the printed pieces from the design was not easy, because the pieces didn't fit to one another. So me and my teammates have to cut the pieces a little bit so that they can fit to the model. For instance, I had to cut come parts such as the arm and feet of the jumpman in the Jordan logo so that the Jordan logo can fit into the model itself. I had also used a tool to put the Jordan logo into the model and it worked. So the Jordan logo would pretty much never come off of the model itself. Putting the numbers 2 and 3 were pretty easy, because they fitted perfectly on the model itself. So once me and my teammates connected our printed pieces together, we were basically done with our projects. So this is basically the instructions on how me and my teammates connected our printed pieces into our designed model. Design Choices:Throughout me and my teammates working on this project, we had some differences on how the final model was going to be compare to the model that we designed in Solidworks. For instance, the little Nike logo in the lower bottom of the Jordan logo was originally going to be a very small separate piece of it, but one of my teammates printed the Nike logo itself, and there was an issue of it. That issue was that the Nike logo didn't fit into the spot where the Jordan logo of my teammate's model. So we decided to make a compromise to not put the printed Nike logo piece in the Jordan logo. So basically we had all of our designs of the Jordan logo with a little hole of the Nike logo. So that was the only issue that me and my teammates had when we printed our design for the Nike Jordan model. Me and my teammates also had some issues while we were designing the Nike Jordan model on Solidworks. Those issues were like trying to trace the Jordan logo around it, cutting the sections that were going to print, and making like a surface behind the design of the model. We all worked together to try to fix those issues and we had our teacher helping us as well. It took us about a week and a half from designing the project to finishing the design so that it can be ready to be printed. Also, you have been wondering: why did me and my teammates chose the Nike Jordan as our logo for this project? Well, when me and my teammates were discussing about what logo should we do for our project. We were thinking about what we did and one of my teammates suggested that the logo in our models should be the Jordan logo. We all agreed to do the Jordan logo, because we thought it was a cool logo to put in our models. Someone suggested that we should put the Nike logo in the lower bottom part of the Jordan logo, because Jordans were made by Nike. I also suggested that we should put the number 23 in the bottom of the Jordan logo, because the jumpman in the Jordan logo is Michael Jordan, and he was a very famous basketball player. Jordan's logo was 23 and that is why we decided to put the number 23 in the bottom of the Jordan logo. Once we came up with those ideas, we decided to get to work on designing the logo on Solidworks. So that is how we came up with the idea to put the Nike Jordan logo with the number 23 for our project. Below this paragraph, it is me and my teammates first design of the Nike Jordan logo with the number 23 and some of the instructions on how wide we were going to design the logo on Solidworks. So that's pretty much on how me and my teammates came up with the idea of our logo, some issues with our model, and how we came up with the final model of the logo.
