The aluminum base of the Intrepid 4x5 MkIV field camera is 4mm thick while the the typical tripod mounting screw on most tripods is well over 5 mm long. Because of this design flaw, when you attach the camera base to just about any mount, the screw extends directly into the path of the focusing sled causing the camera to jam while focusing. The purpose of this mod is to provide an extra 1.5mm gap under the bottom of the camera so that the screw no longer extends into the path of the focusing sled allowing to to move smoothly. Rather than making a tiny shim, filing down the mounting screw height, etc, I added depth to the bottom of the plate. I made the shim plate cover most of the bottom of the camera to provide more stability and so it would not move around. Printing - since it's only 1.5mm thick, I printed at 100% infill. Whatever double sided tape you use, remember that it's thickness will also add to the height of the plate. I used 0.6mm double sided tape to stick it on the bottom permanently. Very happy to say this mod makes the camera work perfectly as it should.
