Intersecting Silhouettes: Ball State
thingiverse
I teach at Ball State University where I have conducted numerous experiments with intersecting geometries using "Ball State" for my studies. My technique involves combining names, concepts, and non-text shapes to create unique intersections that take roughly a minute to complete when working with someone's first and last name or the names of a couple. To expand on this concept, you can experiment with various techniques such as front+right intersections, three-way intersections, angles other than 90 degrees, text following curved paths, and diagonals. The examples showcased here were created using a ZCorp Z510, a Form2, and a Replicator 2X, the latter of which I had to manually remove supports from, a process that can be quite time-consuming. My method for creating these intersections has been detailed in my publication Flowers, J. (2016). Intersecting Silhouettes. Technology & Engineering Teacher, Electronic Supplement, 75(8), 1-8.
