Interpretation of the Pietà

Interpretation of the Pietà

myminifactory

Serrano's interpretation of the Pietà, reimagined through abstraction, unleashes a haunting and unsettling spectacle that blurs the lines between figurative and abstract art, as if the traditional representation of the Pietà was transforming into an amorphous entity. Indeed, within the three seemingly strictly abstract forms, the viewer may discern limbs: a hand, a foot, an arm, a head. This revelation amplifies the horror and anguish of Christ's sacrifice for humanity and profoundly questions more conventional representations of the Pietà to which the viewer is accustomed.
