International Torch of Innovation

The design of this trophy embodies the remarkable accomplishments that can be achieved with additive manufacturing while honoring the global nature of the 3D-printing community. It signifies the groundbreaking advancements we can make when collaborating across the globe to develop innovative techniques, technologies, and methods. The trophy aims to capture the essence of the 3D Printing Industry Awards 2019. It consists of two distinct components specifically designed to be manufactured using SLA and MJF, respectively. Both trophy parts showcase intricate lattice structures, while the SLA part also features micro-features on top and internal channels. The transparent globe at the top of the trophy, made with SLA, is a model of the earth with a flame inside it. Supporting it are various lattice structures in both the SLA and MJF components. To assemble the trophy, the SLA part can be easily inserted into the MJF part after they have been manufactured. For an added effect, a small light can be placed in a pocket at the bottom of the SLA part (see last rendered image). The SLA part should be printable without any support, and the globe has a drainage hole at its base to allow printing fluid to exit. This trophy may present manufacturing challenges, but I believe Protolabs possesses the capabilities to bring it to life.
