In smoke extraction ducts, insulation slabs are fitted externally or internally. If used internally, foil-faced insulation should face the fire exposure. Two methods exist to attach insulation; the picture demonstrates using a 100 x 200 mm steel mesh with M5.5 self-drilling, tapping screws and washers (50 mm dia).
