So I recently acquired a home RAID array featuring 16 disks that's about to expand. To accommodate this growth, I purchased a used Supermicro 4U 45 drive bay SAS expansion chassis, which originally had a multitude of small fans generating considerable noise. The racket was so loud that I wouldn't have wanted it running in my basement. I removed these noisy fans and embarked on creating my own fan shroud, dividing it into three sections. Two prints include tabs for bolting them together, while the third print omits tabs altogether. My aim is to replace the seven 80mm noisy fans with three 140mm case fans, which might not provide as much airflow but should suffice given that the house is air-conditioned and my case won't face extreme conditions often encountered in poorly managed datacenters. You may find this shroud compatible with most 19" cases. The three panels measure 145mm each across, totaling 435mm, and are 170mm tall, which matches the internal dimensions of my case. The tabs are only 7mm thick to accommodate 2mm m3 screws without protruding into the fan area. I secured the fans using standard plastic-grabbing fan-screws. In the original OpenSCAD file, I included a variable to toggle the tabs on or off; however, I've provided both STL files for your convenience.
