Interlocking scrabble/jigsaw/puzzle tile (two directions only), empty faced
thingiverse
This is a redesign/rethink of my previous attempt at an interlocking Scrabble tile. The previous "universal" design, which connected on all four sides, was overkill - you only need two connections to play Scrabble, and all letters must face the same direction. Since I defined clear male and female connectors, it's now easier to connect them - simply slide the male under the female and it will push upwards and connect. However, this new connection isn't as strong, and you probably can't pick up the whole plate without it crumbling. Despite this, rotating the set still won't be a problem, and I think that is worth a lot. Print Settings: Printer: Wanhao i3 Rafts: Doesn't matter Supports: No Resolution: It doesn't make much of a difference Infill: A bit will do Notes: The tiles in the picture were printed with a .6 nozzle and .3 layer height - I suppose a slightly lower height might be better for smooth connecting, but so far (testing with 4 tiles) it works fine. How I Designed This: I made this design slightly better than my first attempt, and much better than the original. You may have noticed that I reset this to WIP for a while. I decided to alter the connectors again. Now the tip of the male is lower than the lip of the female, so it can be pushed under without having to lift the second tile. It will be pushed upwards later, of course. Also, I made the male longer, giving it more grip on the female sides - this way it doesn't wobble as much. There are two versions in here - one with holes for easy plate installation (15x15mm), and another without holes that has about 1mm above the holes, so you can either cut down carefully or simply glue on some letters.
