Interlocking optical breadboard (metric 25 mm M6)
thingiverse
Make your own custom size optical breadboard! These are 125 mm metric optical breadboard tiles, which can be interlocked on the bottom side using connectors. This was specifically designed to hold M6 DIN934 stainless steel nuts of 5 mm thickness inside, so that the breadboard thread is sturdy and robust. Pause the print at the right layer height (the Cura settings are given in one of the pictures), insert the nuts, and proceed to lock the nuts inside. The design was specifically made to print with 0.2 mm layer height and 4 wall layers. I added a test cube so that you can assess whether the nut insertion proceeds to your satisfaction. The interlocking works quite well, but you may have to shave off a little bit of material to improve the fit. You also may need to add some support underneath to prevent larger assemblies from sagging, as of course this will not be as sturdy as a steel or aluminium breadboard. However, it is a much more cheap (~2€ per tile) and accessible alternative! Disclaimer: this was not my idea, as it was inspired by thing 930851 by BDan, but for my application I needed a smaller tile size. If you need any modifications, I can give you the Fusion360 file.
