Interlocking Conductive AA Battery Compartment

Interlocking Conductive AA Battery Compartment

thingiverse

An AA battery compartment designed with conductive filament 'wires' to facilitate printing on a dual extrusion printer. This concept serves as more of a thought experiment and I'm uploading it to see if anyone can offer suggestions for further development - please comment and/or remix. The idea was to create an 'all in one' battery holder that could be interlocked with the same design to build a battery compartment for multiple batteries in any project. However, some limitations seem to hinder the possibilities here: The conductive filament used (conductive ABS) appears to have internal resistance, evident from the voltage reading on the meter. There's approximately 700k ohms of resistance between the battery connection and the end of the 'wire', reducing to 200k near the start of the 'wire'. I am still learning design skills and struggle with adding flexibility. The tabs on the battery ends should be more flexible and easier to print. The interlocking mechanism may be too small and fragile for normal ABS prints. A Fusion360 export file is included, allowing anyone to avoid starting from scratch. An AA Battery object is also included in the file. Print Settings: Printer: Flashforge Creator Pro Rafts: No Supports: Yes Infill: 20% Notes: A self-supporting design for the battery conductive tabs should be used, rather than this one which requires supports. The same applies to the locking mechanism.
