Intel LGA 1366 CPU Delid Tool

thingiverse

This is a delidding tool specifically for Intel LGA 1366 socket CPUs such as the Nehalem and Westmere Xeons you'll find in Mac Pro towers, and 900-series Core i7s. It is based off Dawnaur's and shadimar69's designs but I had to reorient the CPU holder and modify the tool piece in order for the bigger chips to fit. The coin slot is also resized for US coin like a penny or a dime, but anything you can fit in there should do fine. You'll need: * An M8 Bolt * An M8 Nut * A coin (like a US dime or penny) I tested this tool with two Xeon X5690s, gripping the bolt with pair of vice grips, turning until I hear/feel the IHS give way, and they came off clean and easy. For the Xeon chips, with the notch in IHS pointing towards you; you want the right side of the chip facing towards the bolt so you potentially avoid hitting the capacitors underneath when the IHS breaks free. I don't know if this same rule applies to all LGA 1366 chips so please research your specific chip for the safest orientation. You might need to sand/file the pieces (especially where there were supports) in order for them to slide smoothly. If your tool wears out after repeated use, just reprint the small tool piece and you should be good to go again. Use this tool at your own risk. I'm not responsible if you destroy your CPU during or after the delidding process.
