Intel Edison / Grove Modular "Black Box" Case
thingiverse
This is a case for the Intel Edison / Grove / Arduino breakout board. It's meant to be used as a black box for projects, and that means it's modular in design so different modules can be created and printed without having to reprint the whole case and lid. I've included a module for the 2-line LCD component, plus a blank module that can be downloaded and customized. I've also created a remixed LCD, Rotary Encoder & 2 Button module that includes the LCD with a Rotary Encoder below it, flanked by 2 buttons. This would provide the basis for menu navigation or simple input for various projects. Case v1 is the version shown here. In that version, the analog pins are too close to the wall and are inaccessible without removing the breakout board. Case v2 tries to fix that problem by moving the hole pattern away from the wall. However, this results in the ports being quite recessed from their holes. A v3 may be coming soon where a hole is cut in the side to access the analog pins. The screw holes in the lid are sized tightly to fit M3 screws. 16mm or shorter screws work well. Print Settings Printer: Folger Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Infill: 10-15% Notes: A decent blower fan is recommended for printing the case, since some bridging is required when printing the port holes. Supports are needed for printing the module faces, which print best face down. I had great luck using Slic3r to print supports with a single extruder and the same material (PLA) as the print. The supports came off easily without tools and any markings left behind don't matter because that surface isn't exposed externally. However, depending on your printer's tolerance, a little bit of cleanup with a file may be required for the parts to fit evenly.
