Ladies and Gentlemen,\nYou're here because you have a 3D printer and are looking for printable files. Those machines exist thanks to someone who almost 50 years ago designed a tiny super calculator.\nThat person, unknown to me since I checked the internet about the first processor, is Mr. Frederico Faggin.\nMr. Faggin designed in 1970 the first microprocessor, which you can see here. It has a 4-bit architecture and is housed in this tiny DIP 16 box.\nFor your memory, in 1946, 25 years before 1971, it took 30 tons of equipment and 167 square meters of ground floor to achieve the same calculation power.\nYour printer exists because Mr. Faggin designed that microprocessor. And microcomputers started with the next generation, which is the 8080 8-bit architecture processor.\nLooking at pictures on the internet, I saw a ceramic version with gold legs and top and visible circuits underneath. I thought it would be nice to design a big 4004 with this look, scaled up 10:1.\nIt's not a big project, you can print it during your weekend. Almost 50 years after that, you can have this 4004 and let your friends talk about it. Who will ever hear about Mr. Faggin?\n\nThen print the top of the circuit on the bed, preferably on a mirror to get as close as possible to ceramic. Then use scotchbrite to remove the glossy effect because ceramic is not very glossy. Do it lightly, same for the gold cover and all the legs, printed with the visible side on the bed.\nBlack letters same.\n\nPlease don't glue the grey circuit onto the white top plate. You'll see the glue and it's not very nice. Then I put the first sample in the trash and for the second version, the parts were welded together with a soldering iron. You can see two pictures showing that.\n\nThen use a bit of glue for all other parts and you have this masterpiece of history in your hands.\n\nI didn't design the interior of the circuit because no data was available. Then you have a box to put whatever you want inside - money, keys, chocolate, cigarettes.\nYou can also add lights to let it glow in the dark, I suggest amber to be close to the gold finish.\n\nPosting this design, I realized the real main body is slightly different in the index area. Then I changed the design of the three concerned parts. If you want this version, please print the 3 "index V2" parts.\n\nHope you'll like this design made in honor of Mr. Faggin, Father of the first microprocessor.\n\nPlease look at these pages to learn about the 4004: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVD5qKIY6ZM\n\nListen to Mr. Faggin starting his 4004 presentation at 22:30 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j00AULJLCNo\n\nThe 4004 Wikipedia description and history are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_4004\n\nI'll probably also design an 8008 version to celebrate the first 8-bit architecture microprocessor, Father of all microcomputers we're running today. The design is similar.\nAlso, probably a 8080 which is another very famous microprocessor.\n\nMr. Faggin, if one day you read this, I want to tell you a huge THANK YOU for this great job.
