This is just the beginning of many exciting projects from the Ultimaker Academy. We are building a toolkit for ongoing professional development that empowers teachers to unleash students' and makers' creativity, turning their ideas into reality. This toolkit is still evolving. With the release of these open beta projects, we invite our community to share feedback, helping us refine both the projects and the toolkit. Initially, we tested these projects with a small group of schools. Now it's time to hear from you! If you have questions or comments, please reach out to Ronald Scheer. As Ultimaker's Product Manager Education, Ronald oversees educational outreach and curriculum development for both international e-learning programs for teachers and educational projects for students. This project focuses on aquaponics, a fun and instructive model that combines Aquaculture (a fancy term for fish farming) with Hydroponics (soil-less agriculture typically requiring a petroleum-based nutrient solution). The idea behind aquaponics is to utilize fish waste as fertilizer and nourishment for plants within the system. We believe this method of food production has tremendous untapped potential, and we want to encourage innovation in this field. Imagine these developments leading to refrigerators or kitchen systems that grow their own food! Desktop aquaponics systems may be just what's needed to spark further interest in this subject. This project was created in collaboration with Autodesk Sweden and Marki.
