Instax Wide Scanning Frames- Get Even Borders and Prevent Newton Rings
prusaprinters
I shoot a lot of Instax, especially now that I adapted a LomoGraflok back to my Graflex SLR, and I like to scan the film for sharing or before giving away the unique physical copies after shooting portraits. I designed this frame to save me lots of time when scanning. It arranges the film repeatably, so I don't need to adjust the positions each time in the scanning software. Also it holds the film sheets slightly above the scanner in order to prevent Newton rings. Finally, unlike other designs, this requires no adhesives. I modeled ridges into the edges that secure the film into place gently. Simply run a finger around the edges to pop the film into place. You can also use double sided tape to secure badly curled prints if needed, but I don't. I've scanned about 200 frames with this from film spanning 3 years of expiration dates, so I expect it should work the same for any user since Instax seems to have little variation in size in its manufacturing. If you have issues, please report them here. One fun option is to print this in a color that accentuates your shots, you'll add a nice clean colorful border. Or use white, gray, or black as a calibration value to edit your scans based on. There are lots of clever uses of color possible. It is very important that you slice this so the top 0.5 mm is at 0.1-0.15 mm layer heights or the locking feature won't work correctly. This model is a good test of your printer's calibration. This prints the same on my aggressively calibrated Prusa i3mk3S+ and Voron 2.4. If you have problems, try rescaling the model slightly until you get good fit, or try some calibration options. The 2x2 just fits on a Prusa i3 bed, it will not fit on a Prusa Mini or an Ender 3, etc. It's smaller than 8.5x11" so it will fit on just about any flatbed scanner out there. The 2x1 fits on an Ender 3, the 1x1 fits on a Prusa Mini.I hope this saves you time and hassle. Enjoy!
