I recently realized that distilled water can be quite difficult to come by, so I thought it would be fantastic to create some at home. Since I already have an Instant Pot that produces a ton of steam, I figured I could try capturing that steam into a simple distiller by removing the vent/seal knob (This is designed to be removed for cleaning) and attaching a tube to it. The tube I'm using is a 5/16 OD (a hair under 8mm) which I picked up from the local hardware store. Copper would be an even better option for cooling the water, but this one was convenient. The Instapot's seal should fit snugly by hand and the tube should also be firmly attached. A little bit of teflon tape can add some extra grip to the tube if needed. I've printed this design in PETG and ASA. The ASA version (Pictured) is definitely the better choice because the PETG will soften and deform over time. Not a big deal, it still managed to create a tight seal, but the ASA model doesn't deform at all. It's so quick to print that you can easily make extras if needed. I've included my Fusion file with parameters for the tube diameter and most of the other important dimensions in case you need them. PLEASE BE CAREFUL, THE INSTANT POT WON'T BUILD UP PRESSURE BUT STEAM BURNS ARE NO FUN AT ALL. LET EVERYTHING COOL DOWN COMPLETELY BEFORE REMOVING IT. To test it out, I added 4 cups of water to the Instant Pot, sealed it up tight, and attached the tube and adapter on top. The extra hose went into a bucket of ice water to act as a cooler, and I placed the end of the hose in a cup to catch the distilled water. Then, I ran the Instant Pot on manual for 15 minutes. It took about 2 minutes for the steam to start coming out. Enjoy!
