This motivational display features functional knobs at its base to secure keychains bearing keys, credit cards, or USB drives attached to them. The board can prompt you to collect your keys as you leave by displaying an encouraging message that brightens up your day. How I Created This Project Tips When crafting the knobs, ensure they are designed to fit snugly within the keychain rings; the knobs should be smaller in size compared to the key ring. Additionally, when students design the letters of their chosen quote, make sure there is consistent spacing between words, letters, and both sides of the message. Utilizing the move tool helps maintain even spacing between elements. The copy tool can be used for repeated letters within the quote. Project: Inspirational Key Holder Objectives Students are expected to design a unique board with knobs for keychains and craft a meaningful message to accompany it. Audience This project is suitable for anyone with basic skills in designing using Inventor software. The creation of the message and its letters demands patience and skill, making it accessible to students from young ages to adults who can make a fun and one-of-a-kind board. Preparation Students should be familiar with the Inventor program as it's used to design this display. They should possess basic math skills to create uniform-sized letters and maintain equal spacing in their message. Steps Begin on the XY plane by drawing a rectangle that measures 9x4 inches. Extrude this rectangle by 1/2 inch, thus creating the board. Create a new sketch on the front face of this rectangle and draw another rectangle from its bottom corner measuring 9x1 inches. In the middle of this smaller rectangle, draw a circle with a diameter of .75 inches; this will be the center knob in the shape of a full moon. Draw lines extending from both sides of the outer edge of the circle, parallel to the board's edge. These lines should be .85 inches long. At the end of these lines, create a circle measuring .5 inches in diameter. Then draw a line from the outer edge of this circle that is .25 inches long. From the top of this line, draw another line downward at 60 degrees to the edge of the smaller circle. Next, draw a line from the top of the same line down to the edge of the circle at 120 degrees. Using the circular array tool, select the two lines forming a triangle shape and array it around the center of the circle to create 8 points. Remove the .25 inch line you drew in step #6 and trim any portion of the circle between the pointed "spikes." This results in the creation of sun knobs! Draw a line from the outer edge of the left sun's spikes, extending .85 inches towards the left edge of the board. Draw a circle at the end of this line with a diameter of .75 inches. From its center, draw a rightward line until it touches the outer edge of the smaller circle. Then draw another circle measuring .95 inches at this point. Trim any overlapping parts to form a moon shape that opens to the right. Perform steps #10-12 on the other side of the board, creating a moon that opens to the left. Extrude your moons and suns by 1 inch. On the rest of the board, create letters that spell out your message. The letters should not exceed .4 inches in width except for S, M, N, or W. Space words .3 or .4 inches apart depending on the length of your quote. Results Students will end up with a display capable of organizing keys and small items on keychains, featuring a meaningful quote that's special to them. This board not only reminds students to pick up their keys but also brings them joy with its uplifting message.
