Insert for the affordable rock tumbler
thingiverse
I built the affordable Rock Tumbler of onkelgeorg, but couldn't get my hands on the right components for the drum. I think I got the drum itself right, but the lids offered weren't adequate and I foresaw a lot of problems when it didn't fit properly. Because an insert had to be printed anyway, I decided to print the lid too. There's definitely room for improvement, especially making it easier to open. I also wanted to make it quick to print, although it took many hours anyway. If I needed another one, I would strengthen the attachment of the decagon to the bottom plate as I can hear it complaining when I stress it. I used 60% infill and a layer height of 0.3mm. Maybe some more infill is better to make it stronger over time. The walls are 3 mm thick. I deliberately didn't let the decagon touch the PVC in the hope that it might dampen the sound somewhat. I printed mine in ABS/Polycarbonate and it became a very snug fit. If you decide to print it in PLA, it may not shrink enough to fit. This ABS/PC is new to me and is supposed to shrink less, so I don't know how much it needs to scale. The design is still unfinished and it's yet to see its first run. Print Settings Printer: Mendelflex Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 Infill: 60% Notes: I printed it in ABS/PC which doesn't shrink much, but does shrink. It becomes a very snug fit for the 160mm sewer pipe fitting.
