Insect Protection for Beverage Can

This cover keeps wasps from drinking your beer before you do. It takes less than 2 m of 1.75 mm filament and less than 20 min to print (on my printer at 0.3 mm layer height with 3 peripherals and 100% infill). The cover fits standard aluminium beverage cans with 54 mm rim outer diameter (typically 0.33 liter and upwards). If necessary you may adapt the dimensions to your can using OpenSCAD (download and install from www.openscad.org), editing the enclosed .scad source file, rendering your version and creating a new .stl file. Inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5438844/files but different solution. ==================================================================== Update 30 August 2022: "220830_Can_Cover": Support for both 54 mm (beer, Cola, ...) and 51.8 mm (energy drinks, ...) can tops. Increased dish thickness to 1.2 mm (4 x 0.3 mm). Added a wedge to the opening aid (fingernail protection), see slicer picture. I deleted most older (inferior) versions, but left the previous version "220807_Can_Cover_2" (54mm) uploaded. ==================================================================== The .stl files are assuming an extrusion width of 0.5 mm or less, which you may adapt in the enclosed .scad file to your preferences. No need for any change if your extrusion width is 0.5 mm or less. Howto: - Click the cover on top of your unopened beverage can (protecting the can's handle inside the cover's recess). Take the cover/can-combo along your journey. - As soon as you are thirsty: Remove the cover, open the can by inserting the opening end under the can's handle and (important !) BEND THE CAN'S HANDLE SLIGHTLY UPWARDS. Reinstall the cover with the handle inside the cover's recess. - Rotate the cover to expose the can's mouthpiece, drink, then immediately rotate the cover to protect the can's mouthpiece from insects. - Repeat several times. - Do not forget to unmount the cover before disposing of the can (preferably by recycling)!
