Injured Gaul at the Louvre museum, Paris, France

cults3d

This fierce warrior from ancient Gaul (known to the Greeks as a gallate) stands out with his unruly hair and distinctive oval shield emblazoned in the center. He fights on despite being gravely injured, his strength waning. The sculpture exudes an opulent baroque style reminiscent of Pergamum's finest works. It was likely inspired by a group created around 200 BC to honor the triumph of King Pergamenus over the Galatians, celebrated in a prominent display on the Acropolis of Athens.
