Injection Printing - Injection Molding with your 3D printer
thingiverse
Using differing melting points of ABS and PLA, create rudimentary injection-molded parts with your 3D printer. For more information, visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:83805 or http://www.instructables.com/id/Use-Your-3D-Printer-As-An-Injection-Molder/. This proof-of-concept experiment takes about an hour and results in a molded piece free of deposited layers. However, issues with vent sprue and extruder head heat may arise. To create the part, print the STL file in ABS, place the upper half on top of the lower half, load PLA into the extruder, raise the plate to couple with the die, activate load function, wait for plastic to fill cavity, then shut off the extruder when it starts squeezing out. Let cool before opening the die. Enjoy experimenting and share your creations!
