Inishtrahull Island - Wildlife & Places

Inishtrahull stands proudly as Ireland's most northerly island, situated approximately 10 kilometres north-east of Malin Head in County Donegal. This remote island is home to the country's northernmost beacon of light - a lighthouse that has been a guiding presence for generations. Until 1929, Inishtrahull was inhabited by a thriving community, while the lighthouse remained staffed until 1987. Today, the island lies uninhabited and protected due to its rich biodiversity. This project was made possible through a Community Heritage Grant scheme provided to Inishtrahull Bird Observatory (www.inishtrahullbirdobs.ie), with additional support from www.twitter.com/inishtrahullobs and www.twitter.com/IrishLights.
