Infinity Skirt (Alpha Version)

It's Maker Faire season again here in Shenzhen, and I wanted something to follow up last year's DIY Hikaru Skirt (http://imgur.com/a/cAyO2). This time, I aimed to come up with something entirely original, at least as far as I know. While there are plenty of 3D printed clothes making headlines, nearly all are created on pricey SLS printers and the source code is rarely published. Like all my projects, I wanted it to be Open Source and a feasible project for any Maker to build upon. So I conceptualized this wearable array of LED-lit infinity mirror tiles inspired by traditional Chinese 两当铠 armor. The tiles form a flexible matrix that can be reconfigured into various garments or even a bag. Each tile measures 66mm on each edge, and boasts four magnetic electrical conductors that can link it to its neighboring tile. As long as every row and column receives power, there are endless variations that can be explored. With an Arduino and LED matrix controller, each individual tile can be controlled so complex patterns can play across the surface. This is merely a first prototype, though, so all lights receive continuous power and there's no matrix control in place. There's room in the battery pack to add an Arduino later on. I'll post a full parts list and printing instructions within the next day, until then you can get a good grasp of how it works here: http://imgur.com/a/N8MZd see it in action here: http://imgur.com/a/2sVBk and watch the video to learn how to build your own below.
