This is the latching mechanism of my 2006 G35 sedan cup holder door. It failed sometime ago, and since the part had been lost, I experimented with various solutions until it worked. If your door doesn't stay securely closed, this could very well be the root cause of the issue. The design of this door may differ on earlier model G35's, and I'm fairly certain that the coupe has a distinct cup holder area altogether.
