I prefer using geared extruders since they're sturdy and reliable with more parts which isn't an issue however I have experienced issues with expensive filament on direct drive extruders since the tolerances are spot-on and the motor has ample power to push the filament through; not a problem I've noticed with geared extruders hence when I use high-quality, pricey filament, I'll choose direct drive but with expensive filament I feed it to my geared extruder machine always. Since all direct drive extruders seem to be small and I needed something compact I made this geared extruder in 1.75mm format with herringbone gears that have been shrunk to 2/3 their standard size to make it sleek and minimalist. The current version uses a clip for mounting that makes removal simple without tools, the previous iteration required removal by screw but caused jamming often, hence this redesign has greatly improved user-friendliness and maintenance capabilities; however, there are areas that require tweaking like adding options for different mounts that can cater to multiple machines with varied layouts, I'm working on optimizing them, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This geared extruder functions seamlessly however continuous refinements aim to enhance it further including changing some mounting brackets that might need customization to fit distinct machines effectively; feel free to point out potential changes or ideas you think are missing from the design and would love it if users contributed to the extruder's improvement process by testing this new bracket, your insights can guide further updates in making this machine reliable for widespread use on multiple printers. The full designs can be downloaded here http://infill3d.com/20-downloads - any thoughts are welcomed, I plan on using a more compact and portable variant of this extruder later which could integrate better with my current delta bot build; let's see what the community has to say! If you want to try building it just follow these basic instructions for a simple geared extruder... Here is what you need to assemble it: 2x M8 washers 1x M10 Nylon nut 2x M4 spring washers
