This is a project my friend and I came up with - a modified version of Robohand that allows for full use without wrist movement. While Robohand is designed for people with active wrist motion and arm function to some degree, our version can adapt for those who have lost this functionality entirely due to injury or disability. The prosthetic device's mechanical parts would be 3D printed into various sections before assembly, incorporating numerous electronic components as well. A Muscle Sensor V3 developed by Advancer Technologies would measure electrical signals in the forearm muscles, translating them into a control signal that drives an Arduino microcontroller controlling a stepper or servo motor - responsible for hand movement and precise manipulation of objects. Our fingertips incorporate tiny analog pressure sensors which report data back to the Arduino microcontroller for fine-tuned vibration levels from the embedded vibrating motor - thereby providing an almost lifelike sensation when interacting with tangible objects in virtual space. While our project requires a lot of refining work, I do acknowledge that unfortunately we lack access to a 3D printer essential for prototype creation. Nonetheless, having won this challenge and gaining access to 3D printing capabilities could potentially empower people with prosthetic limb deficiencies and at the same time grant us invaluable learning experiences through trial and error processes involved in creating something functional that will benefit countless individuals facing various degrees of mobility loss - thus ultimately transforming their lives in an undeniably significant manner.
