Inertial Indicator

In urban areas with heavy traffic and impatient drivers, clear signaling while biking is crucial for safety. However, most bicycle indicators fail to stand out as just another flashing rear light. To address this issue, an automatic hand indicator could be developed. This device would use an inclinometer or integrating accelerometer to detect when a cyclist's hand moves from the handlebar to a signaling position, causing it to flash orange. The indicator could be worn with a stretchy silicone rubber band or attached via a crocodile clip to a sleeve or glove. Additionally, the device could include a white or orange side marker light for improved visibility from the side. Furthermore, a 'crash detector' feature could be incorporated, which would flash the light in Morse Code SOS if the detected G-force exceeded a certain threshold, potentially alerting drivers to an obstacle or hazard on the road. While this accessory may face challenges in terms of convincing people of its necessity and justifying cost, it has the potential to significantly enhance safety and visibility for cyclists.
