Industrial Worm Gearbox / Gear Reducer (Cutaway version)
thingiverse
**PART OF MY INDUSTRIAL GEARBOX COLLECTION** This is a fully 3D printable version of an industrial worm gear reducer. This cutaway design can be used for training purposes and has a gear ratio of 1:30. Worm gears are made up of two main components: the "worm" and the "worm gear". The worm is a special type of gear with a screw-like shape. When the worm turns 360 degrees, it causes the worm gear to rotate one tooth. Worm gear reducers are often used in applications that require high-speed reduction when space is limited. Another advantage of using a worm gear is that it makes "back driving" nearly impossible. No additional hardware is needed for this design. **UPDATE 7-16-2018** I have added a cap to make the gearbox non-cutaway, which can be seen in the green parts of the fourth picture. When you want the gearbox to be non-cutaway, you need to print the two files labeled "NON-CUTAWAY".
