Industrial/steampunk stepper motor cover for CNC or 3D printer (NEMA17 motor)
thingiverse
I decided that my CNC machine's NEMA17 stepper motors needed an extra boost of energy, so I thought why not try 3D printing some custom covers for them? After some deliberation, I chose to attempt an industrial-style design similar to what you see on motors and transformers in industrial environments. And this is the outcome. You could even say that the design has a steampunk flair, especially when printed with the right colors. They definitely add a conversation starter to my CNC machine. To achieve a steampunk-esque look, I decided to use gold PLA for most of the build, along with silver PETG for the inlay pieces that fit snugly over the top and side inset parts. The inlays are quite thin, so PETG seemed like an excellent choice as it's easier to remove from the print bed in one piece. Building is a straightforward process: simply glue the inset parts into the inside of the cover's frame, then add the inlays using a little glue to secure them.
