Industrial Spur Gearbox / Gear Reducer (Cutaway version)
myminifactory
PART OF MY EXTENSIVE INDUSTRIAL GEARBOX ASSEMBLAGE This is a fully functional, 3D printable rendition of an industrial spur gearbox / gear reducer designed specifically for training purposes. This cutaway version boasts a gear ratio of 1:3.5. Spur gears are arguably the simplest and most widely used type of gearbox available today. They operate by utilizing gears of varying sizes. For instance, if the initial gear has 5 teeth and the secondary gear features 20 teeth, the ratio is 1:4. This means that when you turn the first gear a full 720 degrees, the second gear rotates precisely 180 degrees. No additional hardware is required to assemble this gearbox! UPDATE 7-16-2018: I've added a cap that can convert the gearbox into a non-cutaway design. Take note of the green components in the fourth picture. When you desire a non-cutaway gearbox, be sure to print the file labeled "NON-CUTAWAY". Print settings for each component are as follows: Axle 1: Support - No, Infill - 60 – 80 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Axle 2: Support - No, Infill - 60 – 80 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Axle 3: Support - No, Infill - 60 – 80 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm housing: Support - No, Infill - 20 – 40 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Gear 1: Support - No, Infill - 40 – 60 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Gear 2: Support - No, Infill - 40 – 60 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Spacer: Support - No, Infill - 20 – 40 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm Axle clamp: Support - No, Infill - 20 – 40 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm NON-CUTAWAY cap: Support - Yes, Infill - 20 – 40 %, Layer height - 0.1 – 0.3 mm The clearances of this model range between 0.2 - 0.4 mm (0.008 – 0.016 inch). You may need to drill out the holes for the axles or sand some parts to achieve a precise fit.
