This is part of a series of 30 exercises developed as part of the 3D4KIDS program. The goal of this Erasmus+ program is to enhance teachers' knowledge of 3D printing technology by creating specific training materials. For more information, visit https://www.3d4kids.eu. During this project, students conducted research on Games Controllers. Students created a Mood Board of existing products and analyzed them. They discussed where they could find relevant information and researched Ergonomics' role in designing a Games Controller. This is a group-based activity where students work together to design their individual controllers. Step 1: Students research different button shapes, creating a mood board from internet images. Step 2: Students sketch out the type of buttons they'd like to add to their products, adding annotations and deciding which design would look best on their products. Step 3: Students draw their chosen idea(s) on Tinkercad. Step 5: More able students consider texture, adapting drawings so buttons are shaped and ergonomic, not just flat. Step 6: Students export their final design to Flash Forge Finder. Step 7: Students scale their drawing to fit buttons onto the controller (150mm x 200mm foam). Step 8: Students print their buttons in chosen color to match/compliment their Model Games Controllers. Step 9: Students attach buttons with a hot glue gun and photograph their product. Step 10: Students complete their write-up in Production Logs, detailing processes they've carried out.
