Indiana Jones: Cross of Coronado
thingiverse
"It belongs in a museum!" - Indy I'm thrilled to share my Cross of Coronado replica from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. This package includes everything except the Crucifix Jesus Figure, which I sourced separately from 123D by searching for "Crucifix christ." As I worked on this prop, I realized that separating the ornament arcs and gluing them later gave it a much more realistic touch. The extra time required was well worth it. Here's how to bring your model to life: Print the main cross parts and paint them. Make sure to check the dimensions first; I had to scale down my prints to 97% to fit them in my printer. Paint the top cross with a blue enamel color. Apply two layers of mother of pearl veneer, cut into 3mm strips, for added depth and realism. This material is fragile but convincing, bringing your model to life. Print the hooks and shafts, spray paint them, and attach them to the top cross. You may need to re-drill the hook holes. Print the ornaments and spray paint them. Although attaching these tiny pieces seems daunting, it's actually quite straightforward. Make sure to pre-align them before gluing for a seamless fit. Find a Jesus Christ model that fits your cross; I included a halo STL for an authentic touch (UPDATE: You can also use GILLESBOENISCH Design from Thingiverse). Get some pearls or stones to add depth and texture. The outer pearls are 8mm in diameter, while the larger ones measure 10mm. Glue the pearls and Jesus figure to the cross, then attach the bottom cross to the top one. Use a nice brass chain and hook it onto the chain for a finishing touch. I hope you enjoy making this replica as much as I did! Please share your creations with me.
