My goal is to create a space that promotes inclusion and diversity! I want a makerspace that is inclusive, equitable, and accessible for learners with diverse abilities, cultures, and languages. I am making our TeacherGeek Maker Cart more accessible for users. I collaborated with our AWESOME World Language friends on the language translations, the amazing VI dept on the braille label placement and the super talented OTs in our district on accessible tools, supplies and mobility. The .stl files provided are a perfect fit for the TeacherGeek Maker Cart. Drawer clips and handles provide a larger surface area for the item name and braille labels. Yellow and black provide high contrast improving visibility. Draw handle is easier to grip and open the drawer. Drawer clip hangers are great for providing a high contrast icon of the item. I also used the hangers to provide a QR code for users to scan. The QR code is a link to video/audio explanation of the item. Not every drawer has a QR code but it can be easily added. Braille: If you are not familiar with braille, I recommend reaching out to your districts Vision Department. I sent our super supportive team the list of items and descriptions. She used a Perkins Brailler to emboss on clear plastic adhesive (Grade 2 Braille- contracted). I had to make a few labels on my own. I used a great website, https://www.brailletranslator.org/ and a handy tool called a Braille slate and stylus. All the printed labels were made using Dymo Clear Address Labels (30254). The font used for English, French, and Spanish is Century Gothic. The font used for Vietnamese is Noto Sans SC.
