Ensure safety precautions while grinding and wear protective glasses. Cut a short length of threaded rod and use a die grinder or file to create two spanner flats on one end. Taper the other end at about 5° beyond the thread root using a die grinder, lathe, or file. Create four straight flutes with a slitting disc, file, or milling cutter. Deburr threads and sharpen tooth edges for effective use. Note that this method is suitable only for plastic parts as most threaded rods are soft.
