improved trombone mouthpiece customizer
thingiverse
The enhanced mouthpiece by CKirby - now refined. Note that this parameterized design still suffers from errors in customizer without a clear message, but it works seamlessly in openSCAD. I'm actively investigating the cause of these discrepancies. Here's what I've modified: Four new outer design shapes are available: straight, straight with rim for text edge, rounded and concave. A resolution can be chosen for sampling from bezier curves forming the cup, rim and outer shape. The default resolution has been significantly increased. Rendering this mouthpiece on my i7 macbook takes approximately 10 minutes. Default settings correspond to a wide, shallow commercial-sounding bass trombone piece, reminiscent of the Marcinkiewicz ETB-3 mouthpiece but with an even shallower design. When printing one-piece, I've added a raft along the top of the shank. This allows slicers to add support below, preventing the mouthpiece from falling over during printing. The original Bach-like oversized rounded outer design shape is no longer included by default, but can be easily added if desired. See photos for a test print at 0.15mm layer thickness. I'm planning to produce a much higher resolution print soon to achieve an exceptionally smooth result. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Supports: Yes Notes: If you need to add the raft for added stability, set the slicer to enable support. This model is prone to falling over due to stringing. To achieve a good result, adjust temperature and retraction settings accordingly.
