Improved Imperial Scout Trooper Blaster
thingiverse
This blaster is an accurate replica that can be assembled without glue. It was designed from scratch, using only reference images of screen-used props. The model is perfect for 3D printing and boasts curves in all the right places. Created by Todd Blatt of Custom3dStuff.com, it was made at MarsCon over the weekend. Due to convention rules, a realistic-looking weapon wasn't allowed, so Todd brought his 3D printer instead. Read more on Todd's blog or check out the updated handle design on Thingiverse. The blaster assembles easily with snap-together parts: two pins hold the handle to the main block, three cylinders attach to the back plug, and the nozzle goes in front of the main block. The guard fits into the handle, while the crosshair piece and scopes click together for a secure fit. For added safety, print a spare nozzle in 'safety orange' as needed. Todd recommends printing with pads and peeling them off when done, which helps keep ABS prints flat and prevents curling. Alternatively, use a raft for extra hold-down support during the printing process.
