Improved Hexagon Cooling Fan Shroud System for MakerFarm Prusa i3v and i3
thingiverse
This enhanced cooling system for the Hexagon hot end on MakerFarm Prusa i3 and i3v models places the fan behind the hot end, keeping it hidden. It also ensures that the airflow directs away from the printed part and heated bed to prevent warping. The 25mm fan is set up in the extruder deck at the back of the hot end, drawing air upward and expelling it through the top. A shroud surrounding the hot end pulls air in from the front, across its cooling fins, and into the fan intake. Air exits the back of the extruder. The 3CFM airflow is purposefully focused on cooling the hot end without affecting the print or bed. Additionally, the hot end is visible from the front for monitoring temperatures and detecting issues. A recommended 25x10mm fan, generating 3CFM, is a 12V Sunon Maglev fan available at Digikey. This new X-axis shelf is compatible with original i3v wood parts and the Z probe servo mount. It is also adaptable for i3 models, albeit with different shelf brackets. If the hot end melts the shroud, use fiberglass strips and Kapton tape to create an insulator. Mount the fan directing air upwards and ensure proper screw placement and countersinking on the shelf. Secure the fan shroud using existing extruder mounting screws and two additional M3 screws at the rear. The flexible deck will stiffen upon assembly. To prevent drooping of the shroud, wrap its bottom in a couple of Kapton tape layers. An optional insulator made of fiberglass wrapped in Kapton tape can be placed between the heat block and shroud for higher temperatures.
