Improved Display Mount for Ender 2
thingiverse
Although I still rely on four other, much more advanced printers, my Ender 2 remains a personal favorite, capable of producing parts as precise as any of them when properly tuned-up and is still my go-to printer for small PLA projects. However, there were several issues that bothered me, so I decided to design some custom parts to address the problems. I had previously created a TF to SD conversion kit (Thingiverse 2883732), but I was still frustrated by the difficult-to-read horizontal display. There are other solutions available, but I prefer designing parts that can be printed without rafts or supports, so I developed a two-piece solution that meets this goal. I also integrated the SD interface into the design and included a cover for the OE micro SD slot that retains the adapter cable in place. Additionally, I added provisions to install a 4010 fan, although it may not be necessary. While I had the control module disassembled, I decided to upgrade the X and Y smoother boards. I used eight diode, 30mm x 40mm units and designed a mount that is sandwiched between the mounting standoffs and the cover, requiring only M3 hardware to attach the boards to the mount. The main mount attaches to the OE electronic enclosure with M3 screws (10mm or longer) and M3 nuts, while the display module mounts using OE hardware, minus the standoffs, which are molded into the part for easier assembly. I used M4 hardware to assemble the two parts of the housing, which tightly sandwiches the SD module in place. The TF cover is self-explanatory and features an open bottom for airflow. This design is specifically tailored for the OE hot end housing, which has proven effective enough with PLA that I haven't seen a need to enhance it.
