Improved Deck Box with Gears for Magic the Gathering EDH Commander
thingiverse
After several failed attempts at printing and assembling the amazing CCG Deck box with gears, I decided to revamp it completely. The concept was ingenious, but in my view, the puzzle piece construction was more suitable for laser cut wood or plastic than 3D printing. The old design was challenging to assemble (from my experience lots of glue, snapped ends, and exacto knife cuts) and required multiple prints to complete (check out the photos for a comparison). This "functional reprint" (I guess?) is designed to print faster, assemble more easily, and function better. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section. Major upgrades: The front, back, side, and inner pieces were all merged into one easy-to-print solid. The pinion gear is now held in place by a pin. This reduces stress on the top hinge and enables a more robust open/close operation. The bottom has a simpler shape and easily clicks into place. The entire assembly has been carefully calibrated to fit perfectly. It holds 100 sleeved cards nicely, as well as 60 cards plus a 15-card sideboard. UPDATES 2/10/15: I added deck boxes with mana symbols and implemented a lower profile pin. 6/5/2015: I made a minor adjustment to the main body model to allow for easier assembly. It was tough to slide pins into place initially. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJJ5MVuMWFs&feature=youtu.be Instructions None of these parts need supports, so don't bother. Most of them print flat, so make sure your bed is level. Warped parts might not fit together correctly I recommend printing at a low 0.3mm layer height. The main box body should be printed with a raft, but without support. I did this on a RepRap 2, and the small gaps were easily bridged. Each piece is uploaded separately, so you can load your bed however you like. If a piece needs to be printed in duplicate, the file name will indicate it. Assemble the two rack parts and insert them into the main box, then attach the bottom lift plate. Finally, place the bottom cover on.
