Improved Ankermake M5 Frictionless filament holder with pin
thingiverse
I loved the original design, but had issues with the brace fitting correctly and had an occasion when the filament roll rolled off and fell, as there is nothing blocking the filament to keep it on. I changed the brace to fit snugly on all sides without the need for a screw, and added a hole to the holder to fit the original roller pin. Once the original roller pin is removed, use it as a pin to secure the filament roll. I created a roller pin in case you've lost the original roller. If you print the roller pin, position it horizontally on the print bed (so that it won't tend to break along layer lines).Print, then secure the brace on the filament holder bar. Because I position the filament holder vertically to save space, I found that the filament brace fits fine without the screw.Assemble with 608 bearings as in original (or use the bearing file with BBs; the bearing STL file is not my design), add a roll of filament and put the pin through the hole on the holder assembly to secure. I haven't had a roll come off since making this change. As indicated, you can either use the original steel roller as a pin, or print the included file to use as a pin.I am updating my other Ankermake printers with this and thought others might want the modified files as well.
