Improved 28byj-48/Nema17 peristaltic pump
thingiverse
I've uploaded the SketchUp file for this model to the server, but I haven't revisited the workspace in years - it's a total mess. You can also access a Nema17 version of the pump on Amazon with a larger hose that really gets the job done (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FN1FLA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). After numerous tests and tweaks to my original peristaltic pump (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:664381), I've come up with a self-priming version that's got enough pressure to achieve at least 6' elevation - though, I had to stop short due to lack of hose available. You have several options when it comes to the pump body, including vented and solid motor housing designs along with baseplates that support either an Arduino Uno or Adafruit Perma-Proto quarter-sized breadboard PCB (https://www.adafruit.com/products/589). The major hardware change was the addition of one 608 bearing for a total of four and two lock-nuts on the rotor to keep things in place. To make this thing run, you'll need a 5v 28BYJ-48 stepper motor, the ULN2003 driver board it comes with and an Arduino to power it all (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089JV2OM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The pump's design is centered around 1/16" I.D. x 1/8" O.D. silicone tubing that can be sourced on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G9C9H20/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Additionally, you'll require four 608 bearings, two M3 x 6-8mm bolts and nuts to secure the motor in place, as well as M3 x 28mm bolts and nuts for attaching the rotor case cap, six mm m3 bolts and nuts to secure the motor housing to the base, M3 for attachment points on the driver board and microcontroller, and glue to hold everything together. I'm using an Arduino Uno to connect up a sail moisture sensor that can read and record the data plus activate irrigation as needed.
