Impossible Table

Impossible Table

This is a table top suspended by tension forces which holds the table upright and balanced in place of standard legs using compression forces. The result is an object that seems to defy both gravity and physics. I was inspired by a video online where someone created something similar using yellow wire or pipe cleaners, and I thought it would be interesting to make it more classy and stylized. The end product turned out strong enough to hold a light object or cactus planter without any problems at all. One of my friends informed me that this type of object is called a "tensegrity", which led me to research the subject further and discover that there is an entire class of objects that use this principle. This was very interesting to learn about. I would also love for you to share your own creations, as I had a lot of fun making this project and it will be great to see how yours turn out in comparison!
