Impossible Dovetail Box

Impossible Dovetail Box

I decided to craft my own dovetail boxes from scratch as a personalized gift for a family member, and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I built it to be incredibly sturdy, but after just a few slides, it becomes remarkably easy to open - yet it still requires a deliberate effort to do so. The dimensions are precisely 80x80x30mm. My version features the recipient's name beautifully engraved on the top surface, accompanied by printed letters that are securely attached using CA glue. If you're looking to add someone's name to your creation, I recommend creating an offset of approximately 0.3mm around the letters to form their "pockets". For instance, a capital 'i' measures 6x18mm, so its corresponding pocket would be 6.6x18.6mm. To print the letters with supports and upside down is a great idea, as it will allow you to create a flat surface on top. The pockets are an impressive 1mm deep, while the letters themselves are only 0.6mm deep, ensuring that they remain flush with the top face. Keep in mind that XY and/or Z offsets for the letters may vary depending on your specific printer's capabilities.
