Impossible Dove Tail Puzzle Box
thingiverse
A subtle yet deceptively complex puzzle box is at play here. Note that some non-3D printed items are required to complete the box and make it fully functional. To get started, you'll need a few key components: two strong magnets measuring 2mm x 10mm, as well as one metal ball bearing with a diameter of 10mm. A slightly smaller magnet size will still work, but it's essential that it's no thicker than 2mm and capable of holding the ball bearing in place regardless of orientation. To assemble the box, follow these steps: first, glue the repulsive ends of the magnets to the inside bottom of each half. Then, place the ball bearing into the deeper hole of one half and slide the two halves together. Finally, give the side with the ball bearing a firm smack to make it jump to the opposite magnet. At this point, the ball bearing will lock the puzzle box in place, making it impossible to open without knowing the internal mechanism. To reopen the box, simply apply another firm smack to the opposite end, causing the ball bearing to jump back into its original position. The challenge lies in that those who attempt to solve the puzzle won't be aware of this clever internal mechanism and will likely assume it's impossibly joined by the dovetail design instead. Inside the puzzle box is a secret storage or prize compartment waiting to be discovered. Dimensions for both halves together measure 102mm x 70mm x 102mm. A bonus feature: two versions are included, one plain and smooth, and another heavily ornate version. While the intricacy of the ornate design may make it difficult to print, I've included both options anyway.
