Imperial Cog Fan Grill
thingiverse
I'm demonstrating my commitment to the Empire by covering my fans with a custom-designed version of the cog. My basic story is that I had an existing 40mm fan guard that worked flawlessly until I relocated my fan, only to discover that my fan's fins were protruding just above the top edge of the frame. This led me to realize that I needed a new fan grill with slightly raised edges to prevent it from rubbing against the fan fins. In doing so, I thought it would be a great opportunity to create a few additional variations as well. These custom grills are being used on my Printrbot Simple Metal printer, which has been upgraded with an E3D v6 conversion. It's worth noting that these grills are intentionally designed to be fairly thin, but please exercise caution as they can be fragile. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1984mm Infill: 100% Notes: The pictures shown were printed with Hatchbox Glow PLA at 185 degrees Celsius and 45 mm/s. Design: I used Onshape to create a 3D model of my eyeballed cog shape, carefully incorporating good fan grill dimensions into the design.
