Impeller Casting - Pattern Equipment Design

Impeller Casting - Pattern Equipment Design

grabcad

This is the tooling required to create an impeller casting. The impeller itself was drawn from an historic drawing where the draughtsman actually provides 1:1 scale views of the sweep and curvature of the vanes. How many times do you see these days "do not scale" :) Well here's one example where that rule really does not apply. The vane isn't the smoothest of models but during pattern manufacture there is plenty of scope for a bit of manual intervention with some sand-paper. It's a compromise between CAD quality and the use of CAD hours. As well as constructing the vane from scaling an old drawing, I'm also adding discrete tapers to allow the vane to come out of the sand core.Worried about client confidentiality? Don't be. This is a 15 year old project for a company that no longer exists.I do this kind of work all the time, with over 30 years of engineering experience behind me.
