The Southern Tamandua is a distinct species of anteater found primarily in South America. Its thick fur varies from gray to reddish-brown and features long, coarse guard hairs that offer protection against the elements and predators alike. The snout is short and pointed with powerful claws on its front legs for tearing open termite mounds and ant hills. This unique creature can grow up to 25 inches in length, including a 7-inch tail, and weigh anywhere from 8-15 pounds.
